Recently, the layer-1 blockchain Gravity established a partnership with Chainlink. This collaboration marks a shift in the network’s infrastructure, upgrading from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP.
On December 18, 2024, Gravity announced an upgrade to its infrastructure, transitioning from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP. This shift leverages Chainlink CCIP to enhance the network’s security, expand interoperability between blockchains, and provide a more flexible token transfer experience for users.
For developers, Chainlink CCIP not only simplifies the process of building dApps with cross-chain functionality but also mitigates risks associated with transferring tokens between different blockchains.
The project also applies the Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard to its native token, G, increasing its liquidity and interoperability across networks. This, in turn, unlocks diverse use cases for both users and developers. Additionally, some other key benefits that Chainlink CCIP brings to Gravity include:
High Security: CCIP’s consensus layer is supported by the Chainlink Decentralized Oracle Network (DON) infrastructure. Since the beginning of 2022, DON has recorded a peak TVL of $75 billion and processed over $17 trillion in transaction volume.
Seamless Token Transfers: The platform allows developers to flexibly convert any ERC-20 standard token into a CCT token without altering the internal structure of the original token. Additionally, developers can also customize the token’s smart contract to cater to specific use cases.
Programmable Token Transfers: This mechanism allows token and data transfers to occur within a single transaction. This means users can include specific instructions on how to handle the token after it reaches the destination chain. For example, you could transfer a token to a lending protocol and include an instruction to use that token as collateral for a loan.
In the future, Gravity will continue to improve and upgrade the CCIP protocol to expand the network’s cross-chain interoperability, including integrating new blockchains, supporting a wider variety of tokens, and implementing advanced security measures.
“Upgrading to the Chainlink CCIP standard is a crucial strategic step in Gravity’s long-term development roadmap. The platform provides developers with a comprehensive toolkit to build efficient cross-chain dApps, thereby expanding the scope of the Gravity ecosystem,”
said Patrick Young, Head of Partnerships at Gravity.
The Gravity network – developed by Galxe – stands out with its infrastructure that combines core technologies such as the Grevm virtual machine, the Gravity SDK framework, and Reth full nodes. This design helps optimize network performance and scalability. Additionally, Gravity also integrates techniques like Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) to enhance security. Thanks to the synergy of these technologies, Gravity’s network throughput is expected to reach 1 gigagas/second with the ability to support over 20 million users.
